Welcome to Lancaster

As rich in history as it is in beauty, the town of Lancaster is the oldest town in Massachusetts,incorporaLancaster Town Hallted in 1653. Located between routes 495 and 190 and within close proximity to routes 2, 117 and 62, Lancaster offers easy access to Boston and Worcester and their surrounding communities. In addition, there is an abundance of nearby shopping, cultural and recreational amenities and medical facilities.

Lancaster town highlights include a blend of peaceful country vistas, apple orchards, open space and equestrian properties. Lancaster's town green, surrounded by historic buildings, contributes to this picturesque landscape.

Bulfinch ChurchOne such building, the First Church of Christ was designed by Charles Bulfinch in 1816 and is locally known as the Bulfinch Church.  Paul Revere bell still chimes in the tower. Also on the town green sits the Lancaster Public Library, a gift by the Thayer family, and built over a century ago as a memorial to the town's Civil War deceased. The Center School was built in 1903 and served for years as Lancaster's High School. Lastly, the Town Hall completes the circle of historic buildings around the town green and was built by a member of the Thayer family in 1904.

 

Enjoy the Horsehed Fair that runs annually in Lancaster Horshed  Barnsas well as the relocated Bolton Fair to its new location, The Fairgrounds at Lancaster. These annual fairs are loved by adults and children alike and are steeped with tradition. If you've never attended you'll find the entertainment fabulous, country cloggers and fiddlers, the sheep competition and oxen pulls are one of a kind, the 4-H demonstrations an education you won't find in a classroom and the local crafts people outshine your most vivid expectations.
