2011 promises to be a very exciting year for the Council on Aging as the renovation of the Tercentenary building into Lancaster's first Community Center is almst complete.  The finishing touches include installation of a sprinkler system, some general carpentry work, wiring for computers and phones, bathroom renovations, and ending with the installation of carpet.  In the spring, the rear handicap-accessible parking area will be paived.  All should be ready for a spring grand opening.

Immediate occupancy is expected by the Council on Aging, the Recreation Committee, the Veteran's organization, the Commission on Disability, and the local public access community television station.  The entire building will be open for indoor recreation, function,s classes, programs and meetings.  The Council on Aging will also have a dedicated room for its programming, including the meals program.

A new Boad of Directors has been established which will oversee and guide the ongoing administration, operation and maintenance of the facility.  The new board has representation from the Council on Aging with Chairman David James being part of the team.  A web page will be on the town's web site (www.ci.lancaster.ma.us) that will announce the scheduled activities and programs once the Center is open to the public.

Thanks very much to all the volunteers for making this center happen and special thanks to our own David James for his participation and leadership in Lancaster's Council on Aging.
